- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2017This book and the associated class were awesome! This is easy to follow and I learned a lot.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2022I just wish the author would use they instead of she or he, it'd save a lot of writing space and use a lot less characters
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2017Easy to comprehend and master a difficult subject. I used this text for my college course.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2017Average book. If you have zero programming experience, this would probably be an ok book (skip tho, it is wayyyy over priced). If you have any programming experience, even if a little, I think you will find this book extremely basic without enough guts. I had to purchase the book for a class. It is extremely over priced for any book, but even more so considering what little it offers. There are so many better books to learn C++. If you are purchasing for a class, you are going to be stuck getting this book. But if you plan to read a book to learn, skip this book and you will be so happy. You will save a ton getting another book and learn considerably more.
Each chapter can be read in 15 minutes max. There are a good bit of examples at the end of the chapters but I used another book for reference in my class because I just didn't like the layout of the book nor how concepts were explained.. This was my preference. Some may like the examples given.
Books I prefer for intro to C++:
No programming experience--> Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++ ( Bjarne Stroustrup)
Some programming experience--> A Tour of C++ (C++ In-Depth Series) ( Bjarne Stroustrup)
Summarize.. Skip this book if you are teaching yourself.. Horrible value for your money. If you are in a class and have to purchase, the book is not terrible, just way over priced for what you are getting.
I do not see how any instructor selecting a book for a C++ class can justify selecting this book that the students must purchase.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2016Not a bad book for teaching the basics of C++ programming, but learning any programming language is tough.
