Things you’ve done online: ordered a pizza, checked the weather, booked a hotel, and reconnected with long-lost friends. Now it’s time to find out how these things work. Vinay Trivedi peels back the mystery of the Internet, explains it all in the simplest terms, and gives you the knowledge you need to speak confidently when the subject turns to technology.

This revised second edition of How to Speak Tech employs the strategy of the popular first edition: through the narrative of setting up a fictitious startup, it introduces you to essential tech concepts. New tech topics that were added in this edition include the blockchain, augmented and virtual reality, Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence.

The author’s key message is: technology isn’t beyond the understanding of anyone! By breaking down major tech concepts involved with a modern startup into bite-sized chapters, the author’s approach helps you understand topics that aren’t always explained clearly and shows you that they aren’t rocket science.

So go ahead, grab this book, start to “speak tech,” and hold your own in any tech-related conversation!

My Surprisingly Favorite Book

My Surprisingly Favorite Book
I absolutely love this book. It was recommended to me when I was talking to a programmer about specific issues I was having. I've read the thing twice already and refer back to it a lot. For anyone who needs to understand tech lingo and concepts in lay terms there is no better reference. Your "tech anxiety" will be cured.

This is the ultimate book for those of you with little to no experience in product/tech. It does a phenomenal job articulating tech language/concepts in a digestible and relatable manner. As a Product Manager, the terminology and concepts in this book are immediately applicable to my role, and allows me to keep up and contribute in product/tech conversations.

For context, I'm a Product Manager with little to no previous experience in the software/tech space. Though I understood the process at a high level given my project/program management experience, it was extremely difficult for me to understand issues and concepts in order for me to provide status reports to leadership, but also to make strategic decisions/plans.

It's a great book, I keep it close by at work to reference it during conversations/meetings.

I bought this book as it came up on my "Suggested Reading List" and I can tell you, it has taught me more in a shorter amount of time than what I' learned over a span of 3 to 4 years growing up. In high school, I worked as a technician at an Apple Reseller and have taught myself web basics (HTML, CSS, Javascript), but I really wish this book was out when I was growing up. I could gotten up to speed A LOT faster.

Trivedi's eloquent yet casual way of explaining complex concepts like databases, APIs, front end frameworks, and more makes it easy for anyone to pick up and read. Technology no longer is in the hands of few. It is now a part of everyone's daily lives and saying up-to-date has never been more important. This book is an easy, quick way to get you up to speed.

If you want to get into tech entrepreneurship this book is a must. I am in education space currently and I think it could be value to be used in intro programming courses or S.T.E.M. curriculums.

    I highly recommend this book!!

My take on this book could be over simplified as I am (as the book suggests) a complete non-techie. It is the first "technical" book I have read. Contrary to my misgivings about not being able to get through it, I was pleasantly surprised. For those of you who are not familiar with any IT terms viz., CSS, HTML, DBMS, etc., this book demystifies some of the jargon. Helps you understand the complicated business of coding, web development, database management etc. Recommended for novices and beginners

As a finance student trying to learn more about the tech sector, this book serves as a great primer. There are few typos in the books. But overall, the language is simple and the materials are easy to understand. It's a short book of IT 101, and you get to learn something about different programming languages, what are front-end, back-end, and database, debugging process, etc. Any finance/business major who wants to get into technology banking or work in a startup should read this book. The book doesn't have any graphics, but the author recommended "How The Internet Works" if you want further details. That book covers a lot more topics with graphics, and I'd recommend it after you finish "How to Speak Tech."

I was searching for an easy to understand book explaining some basic tech/internet concepts, and I came across "How to Speak Tech" in the "Suggested Reading" view. I had an interview with a tech company (non-technical position, of course) a few weeks ago, and had wanted to learn some basics about technology. It definitely helped me be a more competitive candidate during the interview.

Upon reading it, I was thoroughly impressed by Trivedi's ability to simplify complex concepts. I haven't read any authors who explained Cloud computing and Databases as well as you did. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an easy to read book to brush up on their tech knowledge!

How to Speak Tech has made concepts such as Blockchain, AI, and VR much more accessible to aspiring entrepreneurs like myself. In a fast-moving world where tech can become a barrier, Trivedi simplifies key technological terms and puts them into context. The book has definitely helped me to get a better understanding of what the techies are talking about!

About to start a new job in the tech sector so desperately wanted something that was easy to read and could supply some core knowledge of how the internet works. Full disclosure - I JUST started reading this so take my comments for what they are worth. However, I can tell this book is mapped out very well and is easy to digest. I like the tone of the author and the fact that it dives right into what us readers are looking for. A+ so far!
